Am I getting it right?

Am I getting it right? was the Commissioner’s first annual reporting event to children and young people.

It was held at the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh on Friday 23 November and streamed live on Scottish Parliament TV and through Glow

Young people from Edinburgh Youth Forum also tweeted on Tam's behalf throughout the day. Follow @RightsSCCYP and hashtag #rightshere to see what they were saying!

The focus of the day was reporting to children and young people on the work that the Commissioner has undertaken on their behalf in 2011 and 2012. It was also an opportunity to have a discussion about the four main areas of work identified through a RIGHT blether.

The themes of the day:

  • Feeling safe and secure in our homes
  • Being treated fairly, no matter how much money our families have
  • Being safe and respected in our communities
  • In Scotland, being included no matter how different we all are.

The day was divided into three sessions, all of which were available on Glow:

Session 1: Tam’s report

The Commissioner’s annual report to children and young people. An interactive question and answer session with the Commissioner and an invited audience of children, young people and adults.

Session 2: Question Time

This session included a panel answering your questions. Participants also voted for their favourite answers to see if their results matched those of the invited audience.

Session 3: Interactive workshop

Workshops ran during the afternoon about creating some golden rules and new ideas for listening to children and young people. The results of all the workshops will be fed back to MSPs both on the day and in the form of a report after the event.

Tam and the team worked with children and young people from Impact Arts to create this report on his progress, which was launched at the event.

A big thank you to Lewis, Lynsey, Elma, Sarah, Lauren and Naomi for their help making the film!
