Child Contact Proceedings for Children Affected by Domestic Abuse
March 2013. Disputes over child-parent contact have become the focus of increasing policy and practice attention. This preliminary research study examines current practices and procedures in child contact proceedings where there is domestic abuse, from a children's rights perspective. This report has been co-authored by Fiona Morrison and Kay Tisdall, the Centre for Research on Families and Relationships, University of Edinburgh, and Fiona Jones and Alison Reid, cl@n childlaw.
Children and Young People’s Views on Participation and Principles for Practice
March 2013. This report presents the key findings from workshops carried out by the Commissioner's team with children and young people. It summarises what adults could think about to make sure children and young people participate in decision making in a meaningful way and highlights what positive experiences of participationcan look like.
Am I Getting it RIGHT? Report on the workshops held at the Scottish Parliament, 23rd November 2012
March 2013. On the 23rd November 2012, children and young people gathered at the Scottish Parliament to work together to evaluate how effective Scotland's Commissioner for Children and Young People has been over the past year. As part of this process attendees took part in workshops to discover how well children and young people feel adults are listening to them and to formulate some "Golden Rules" that could be followed by adults to ensure good communication.
Child Contact Proceedings for Children Affected by Domestic Abuse - Briefing Paper
January 2013. The purpose of this research was to provide the Commissioner with information about current practices and procedures in Scottish child contact proceedings for children affected by domestic abuse, from a children’s rights perspective.
The online behaviour of children and young people: A preliminary review of the literature
December 2012. Digital media is a key means of communication between the Commissioner and the children and young people he is working to support. This report by Adelle Gardiner is intended to inform the development and delivery of these existing and new digital communication channels.

November 2012. This report has been compiled to tell the whole story of a RIGHT blether – from the very beginning in 2009, to the action that is now is being undertaken in response.
Social work services for disabled children and young people and their families: assessment and eligibility
October 2012. A report by Becki Lancaster. We commissioned this report when the Commissioner was alerted to the concerns of families of disabled children and young people who were reporting a perceived decrease in access to services provided by some local authorities.

Final report: a RIGHT wee blether
October 2012. a RIGHT wee blether ran from Sept. 2011 - Dec. 2011 and involved all local authorities in Scotland. In total 612 Our Wee Stories were returned, containing responses from 12,771 children. This report looks at information taken from those story books.
The administration of medicines in schools - Report on FOI responses
October 2012. This paper reports on responses to a Freedom of Information request carried out by Scotland’s Commissioner for Children and Young People to explore how far current guidance on the administration of medicines in schools is being met and to gain an insight into current policies and practice.
Children and Young People’s Participation in Scotland: Frameworks, standards and principles for practice
August 2012. A report by Dr Greg Mannion. Providing greater support for children and young people’s participation in Scotland is seen by Scotland’s Commissioner for Children and Young People as a way of addressing children’s rights, improving practice across all kinds of services, and advancing a more democratic civil society.

Poverty, educational attainment and achievement in Scotland: a critical review of the literature
July 2012. This critical review of the literature on the links between poverty, educational attainment and achievement aims to provide a clear picture of recent policy and research relating to addressing the attainment gap and to promoting young people's achievement. There is particular emphasis throughout on developments in policy and practice at the national and local levels in Scotland, although there are some references to salient developments in England. The review was undertaken by Anne Pirrie and Edward Hockings, University of the West of Scotland and was commissioned in response to the outcome of a RIGHT blether, the national consultation by Scotland's Commissioner for Children and Young People.
A critical review and analysis of current research and policy relating to disabled children and young people in Scotland
April 2012. This report by Professor Kirsten Stalker with Dr Lio Moscardini, University of Strathclyde, provides a critical, informative and up to date overview of issues facing disabled children and young people in Scotland. It covers areas such as education, self-directed support, short breaks and transition to adulthood. It also draws attention to the specific barriers faced by deaf children, children with learning disabilities and those with mental health issues.
What's your right brilliant thing? what children and young people told us
April 2012. A Right Brilliant Thing, the topic of this report, was the key activity within the 'Create' strand of a RIGHT blether, a national consultation to identify what is important in the lives of children and young people in Scotland. Through this participatory activity, children and young people from across Scotland were invited to tell the Commissioner about the brilliant things in their world.

Evaluation of a Right Blether
September 2011. This report presents the final findings from the evaluation of the national consultation a RIGHT blether undertaken by York Consulting on behalf of the Commissioner.
Not seen, not heard, not guilty: 2011 review
June 2011. Over the last three years, the Commissioner and others have used every opportunity to highlight the need to make progress in ensuring adequate and timely support for children affected by parental imprisonment, and raise the profile of the children of prisoners in the criminal justice system.
Scotland: a safe place for child traffickers? a scoping study into the nature and extent of child trafficking in Scotland
March 2011. The purpose of this study was to provide the Commissioner with an understanding of child trafficking which would allow his office to make recommendations for policy, practice and legislative change, and to use the results to raise awareness among professionals and key stakeholders of child trafficking. The research was undertaken by the Centre for Rural Childhood, Perth College UHI.
