What is Scotland’s Commissioner for Children and Young People?
Scotland’s Commissioner for Children and Young People is a person.
His name is Tam Baillie.
He works to protect children and young people’s rights.
He does this for everyone under 18, or up to 21 if they have ever been ‘looked after’ or in care.
Why should I contact the Commissioner?
You might want to contact the Commissioner because:
- You would like more information about your rights.
Rights are a list of promises to children and young people to keep them safe.
They are used to make sure that you are treated fairly and looked after properly. When something is called a right, it means that nobody can take it away from you. It is yours, and it is meant to protect you and help you to have a good life.
- You feel that your rights or the rights of someone you know are not being respected.
- You would like advice, or to be directed to another service that could help you.
How to get in touch with the Commissioner
If you are a child or a young person, anything you tell Tam and his team is kept private, unless we think you are in danger.
