The Commissioner's office is actively involved in research that relates to the rights of children and young people and how the Commissioner can make a difference.
Our research takes the form of:
- surveys of children, young people and adults
- discussion with children and young people in focus groups
- analysis of existing research, and desktop reviews.
Current research
Research currently underway includes:
Review of international literature on the ‘physical discipline’ of children from 2005 to the present
A small scale project which aims to update aspects of the international literature on physical discipline review undertaken in 2008 to provide Scotland with comprehensive, up to date evidence on the issue of physical discipline. Dr Anja Heilmann of UCL (University College London) has been appointed to undertake this work.
Evaluation of the 7 Golden Rules for Participation
Copius Consulting have been appointed to undertake an evaluation of the impact and effectiveness of the Commissioner’s resource 7 Golden Rules for Participation through a survey and series of case studies.
Youth Football Registration in Scotland – exploring the views of young players
The Scottish Parliament Public Petition PE1319 (Improving Youth Football in Scotland) has raised a number of concerns with regard to young people involved in youth football and registration with professional football clubs.
The Commissioner has appointed Ewart Communications to undertake a small scale project which will include interviews and focus groups with young people and will inform the work of the Public Petitions Committee.
