Strathclyde University - new opportunities for parents

New music project

Do you have a child with a learning or physical disability who would love to learn a musical instrument but hasn’t been given the opportunity? An exciting new music project called Play On may be the answer. Experienced tutors will be giving instrumental tuition to young people aged 12-18 with a physical or learning disability (or both) in  a range of instruments on Saturday mornings at the University of Strathclyde, beginning in January (start date to be confirmed). Students do not need to have special musical aptitude, just an interest in music and the willingness to learn. The young people who participate do not need to live in Glasgow but will need to be able to travel to the University for tuition and can be accompanied by a parent, carer, friend or paid supporter. There will be a very small cost for each lesson but funds may be available if families find this difficult to pay.

For more information and to reserve your child’s place, call Ninian Perry of Paragon Ensemble Ltd on 0141 354 0234 (office), 07788 974 067 (mob) or email:

Tell us your views on your child's behaviour

Mums and dads needed for research on parent views of child behaviour. All children misbehave from time to time. This is a normal childhood experience. Some children however experience more of these difficult behaviours than others. Myrthe Jacobs, a researcher at the University of Strathclyde is interested in how parents think about and react to their child’s misbehaviour. This will help her understand how individual parents can be supported in dealing with various child behaviours. Who can participate? Parents who have a child with a learning disability within the ages of 6 and 12. Please note that your child does not need to experience behaviour problems for you to be able to participate. What will I do in the project? Parents will be asked to complete three online questionnaires. This should take around 15 minutes. All information is anonymous. You can ask for a summary of the results of the study. You can also be included in a prize draw, which will give you a chance to win one of 35 £5 M&S vouchers or one £15 M&S voucher!
